Turning Wheels for Kids is a local Bay Area charity that provides new bicycles to underprivileged children.  Their main focus is to prevent childhood obesity and support low-income families.  Their ultimate goal is to encourage outdoor activity and promote positive, lifelong habits such as exercise.  Kyle Petty Charity Ride across America funds and raises awareness for Victory Junction Camps.  The group has seen over 7,000 riders who’ve logged more than 10.2 million motorcycle miles across the country.  The Bartels participate and donate to this group led by NASCAR driver, Kyle Petty.

Recently, David and Renee Bartels received the Mayflower Transit “Joyce Derrick Award” for their dedication and service over the last three decades.  The “Joyce Derrick Award” recognized individuals who have shown particular dedication and leadership in the moving industry.  The award is named in honor of the late Joyce Derrick, who served for 20 years as Vice President of Operations for a California Mayflower agency and was well-known for her commitment to fellow employees and van operators.

The award was given to the Bartels by Richard McClure, president of Mayflower and UniGroup, Inc.  When announcing the Bartels as recipients, McClure said, “This team has been quite successful in running their agency, serving big volume customers who have the highest requirements for on-time and damage-free service – often honored with awards, theirs in clearly a partnership of commitment to quality services, operational excellence and sound business skills that have contributed to the long-term success of their agency.”
